The Chef” hits national TV

While he waits for the next step in one of his careers, Julius Jackson took another step forward in his other career recently.
That step – a taped appearance on a national cooking show – has afforded “The Chef” a chance at showing off his culinary skills.
The St. Thomas boxer will appear at 2:30 p.m. today on Beach Bites with Katie Lee, a Cooking Channel program that can be seen on the Virgin Islands.
“It was my first big demonstration on national TV,” Jackson said. “I thought I would be nervous, but I was comfortable. I had my brother John and another friend there, and having them around made it more comfortable with me. But I’m looking to get everybody’s feedback.”
Jackson, who used to work at Fat Turtle at Yacht Haven Grande, responded to the restaurant as they were looking for a camera-friendly chef.
For the June 11 taping, Jackson made Caribbean stewed chicken with Lee, a dish that was recently added to the Fat Turtle menu.
As for his fight career, the 19-0 super middleweight is waiting on an opponent, and said he’s planning to hear final word soon of an Oct. 6 bout.
The Cooking Channel is No. 70 on Innovative cable, channel No. 232 on DirecTV and channel No. 113 on DISH Network.
